We interviewed one of our winners, Samantha Tongue, to learn more about her, and how she plans to use this scholarship, as she gets started in her histology career!
NSH: What made you decide to pursue a career in histology?
Samantha: I had a teacher at the Community College of Philadelphia who showed me the exciting world of Histotechnology!
NSH: How will this scholarship help you achieve your goals?
Samantha: This scholarship will afford me the opportunity to be able to expand my horizons by venturing to the upcoming events.
NSH: What advice do you have for other students who are interested in histology?
"I would say if working in a fast paced, hands on environment intrigues you, definitely look into Histology. It is such an important part of patient lives that people have no idea about. You’re like a secret superhero!"
NSH: What advice do you have for other students interested in applying for scholarships?
I would tell future students to look into applying for scholarships because you never know! It is both very nice and rewarding, to know that you were specifically picked for such an honor!
NSH: What are your plans after you graduate from your program?
Samantha: I plan to go into the work force as soon as possible! I cannot wait to start helping patients one slide at a time!
NSH: Anything else you would like to say to other young histology professionals?
Samantha: I would also love to add that being a part of the world of Histotechnology as a young professional right out of school is both an exciting and rewarding time! You’ll remember this for the rest of your working career, enjoy the moment!
Congratulations to Samantha and all of our student scholarship winners. Professional scholarships are still open until June 1st! Click here to learn more.
